Green Fleet MemberJucy Rentals is a member of Green Fleet which is a practical program developed by the Sustainable Business Network to reduce the impacts of vehicle fleets on our environment.

The two largest areas of energy consumption at JUCY are fuel emissions and cleaning. So we are looking at a range of initiatives to be more green.

What is Jucy doing to keep Green?

Jucy is a NZ owned and operated company and we care about NZ, the environment and our impact in the years to come.

We want to do our bit to minimise the impact our business has on the environment. By putting different programs in place, thinking of new incentives and educating our clients on what they can do we can do that little bit extra to make things greener!

Recycling

All our Jucy offices nationwide have recycling programs.  We have recycling bins for cans, glass bottles & plastic bottles and all unused or scrap paper is recycled as well!

Car Share

cityhop - New Zealand's first car share company offering cars by the hour has been launched. cityhop is a congestion busting business that is also cleaning up our air and waterways by discouraging car use. This company is a tangible way JUCY is supporting sustainability. It’s a venture capital initiative by Jucy Rentals and Victoria Carter to encourage people to sell or leave their car at home and "cityhop" around the city when they need wheels.

5 ways to reduce your impact....

We are being bombarded with messages telling us it is time to think green.  But where do you start and how practical is it? The first thing is that you do not have to change your whole life to make a difference.  It is the little things that count in reducing carbon footprints.

Here are 5 simple and cheap ways to cut emissions:

  • Heat or cool your house less
  • Use recyclable shopping bags instead of plastic bags
  • Run electrical equipment less and use less water since pumping water uses electricity
  • Buy locally manufactured foods and goods
  • By the most energy efficient devices you can afford
  • Join a car share company like cityhop
What can you do when driving around New Zealand?

Like many countries, New Zealand is acutely aware of the need to reduce Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions to counter climate change. Transport related CO2 emissions make up around 40% of New Zealand’s CO2 emissions but these are the emissions that are among the easiest to do something about.

  • Choose a rental vehicle that suits your needs. Large or powerful vehicles are fun but they do produce higher emissions. A small car which is overloaded is also inefficient.
  • If you are visiting a main centre, consider parking up your vehicle and using public transport or walking instead of driving. Walking is the most sustainable form of transport and is a great way to see New Zealand.
  • Drive with a smile. Keeping to the speed limit, looking at the traffic ahead and driving smoothly saves fuel and reduces emissions. Driving efficiently can reduce fuel consumption and emissions by up to 25%.
  • Switching off your engine when you are stopped for more than 30 seconds prevents emissions and does not harm the engine. Idling your engine gives you 0 kilometers per litre. This is particularly important for diesel engines which also produce harmful particulates.
  • Turn off the extras when you don’t need them. Using the air conditioning can add 10% to your fuel bill and CO2 emissions. Use the air vents and keep windows up when travelling at open road speed.
Try to avoid traffic congestion. Many major towns and cities suffer from congestion. Avoiding peak times saves fuel, CO2 emissions and aggravation.
