RowBox Introduction

The 'RowBox' is a unique concept that was designed by the Karapiro Organising Committee to help promote New Zealand and the 2010 World Rowing Championships, Karapiro, in a way no other rowing event or major sporting event in New Zealand has done before.

It is the first time in the sport's history that a championship has marketed itself in this way. The RowBox provides an entire exhibition and experience inside the retractable 20 foot container.

The container unfolds to reveal four rowing machines supplied by Concept2 New Zealand that are connected to a display of Lake Karapiro. The groundbreaking digital technology allows users to have a virtual row along the lake as it will look during the World Championships. The stunning 'on water' experience is supplemented by material promoting the 2010 World Rowing Championships and our major partners.

The RowBox has toured the world's major regattas and has now returned to New Zealand to begin a 10-month National Roadshow.

RowBox National RoadShow

The RowBox National RoadShow will aim to generate interest throughout New Zealand as it has done so successfully on its 2009 world tour. A National RowBox Tournament has been created; whereby competitors from all ages will be encouraged to set a time on the virtual World Rowing course at Lake Karapiro. Participants in the national tournament will compete in several 'age group'  fields and in some cases compete in staged finals with results updated on the website daily.

Participants will be able to track their ranking and view the National Roadshow online as times and video footage of participants from around the World and in New Zealand, will be featured on the RowBox webpage through the official website of the Championships www.wrch2010.com

The RowBox National Roadshow will begin in January 2010, where the RowBox will tour the length of New Zealand. The first phase of the National Roadshow will see the RowBox visit holiday hotspots in the North Island region; bringing the event to holiday makers in conjunction with other summer activities.

The RowBox will then turn its attention to both the secondary schools and the national clubs regattas throughout the country, where the RowBox will be present at most major regattas featured in the Rowing New Zealand Calendar.

JUCY Rentals are proud be supporting the RowBox tour, and one of our JUCY Cribs will be accompanying the RowBox on its journey around New Zealand.

In conjunction with the National RowBox Tournament an Inter-School tournament will be held, schools will be invited to enter a 4 person team to participate against one another in local satellite tournaments throughout New Zealand. Additional rowing machines will be added to the designated lanes of the RowBox to allow for the teams to compete as a crew on the world stage.

To find out more about the RowBox go to: www.wrch2010.com/Rowbox; or join our New Zealand World Rowing Championships 2010 group page on Facebook.

The RowBox will have concluded the National Roadshow in October and will be a present at the 2010 World Rowing Championships, Karapiro.

So keep an eye out for the RowBox and the green JUCY Crib, coming to a town near you very soon!
