About Christchurch

Get ready for kick off on the adventure of a lifetime in the South Island of New Zealand starting in Christchurch, the gateway for many beginning this amazing journey!

Many travellers will only spend a night or two in Christchurch, eager to explore the rest of the South Island but there is so much on offer in the city. Punting along the Avon River, exploring the Botanic Gardens (it is the Garden City after all), hiking and mountain biking in the Port Hills, dining out or simply walking around this eclectic city of old and new – there’s no time to be bored in Christchurch! The city is still in the process of being rebuilt after the devastating 2011 earthquake but what is springing up in its wake is brimming with creativity and community. Check out the brightly coloured Re:START, an outdoor retail and café centre, or stop by the International Arctic Centre – a JUCY favourite, nearby the Airport branch.

Heading north, the coastal town of Kaikoura is not to be missed! Go whale watching by boat or by air, take a swim with either dolphins or seals (or both) or hike the rugged mountains that overlook this New Zealand gem.

Further north, the Marlborough region caters to wine lovers, photographers, hikers and sailors alike! Prepare to be blown away by the beauty of the region as you hike the 72km Queen Charlotte Track or if you prefer something more chilled out, park your wheels at a nearby a Marlborough winery and learn about the vintages that make this region famous around the world.

Heading south, take in Mt Cook, famed as Sir Edmund Hillary’s training ground, en-route to Queenstown - the adventure capital of New Zealand and a highlight on many an itinerary.

The South Island is amazing – so drink it up and take a JUCY road trip you’ll never forget!
